Hardest Form of Patience
Sabr is an Arabic word which comes from a root meaning to detain, refrain and stop.
There are two factors that influence the degree of difficulty in patience. First, is the degree of motivation when a man wants to do something, and second, how convenient the intended action is for the man. If both factors exist [ie. the motivation and convenience for performing the act are high], patience reaches its utmost difficulty and vice versa, while if one of the two factors disappears, it becomes difficult on one hand and considerably convenient on the other.
Thus, if man has no motive to kill, steal, drink wine, or commit atrocities, and these actions are inconvenient for him, then he is able to ward them off easily. Whereas a man whose desires are powerful and finds it convenient to act accordingly, then he will hardly be able to show constant perseverance.
Hence, the ruler who abstains from injustice, the young man who stays away from indecency, and the rich who gives up worldly pleasures, will have the highest status before Allah. On the other hand, the adulterous old man, the untruthful ruler, and the arrogant poor are severely punished by Allah because it is more convenient for them to overcome such unlawful desires. Consequently, giving up patience in such situations sheds light on their disrespect and rebellion against Allah.

Do not scandalize an innocent!
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever accuses anyone with something not found in him, in order to scandalize him, Allah will imprison him in the Hell fire, until he brings a solid evidence of what he claimed." (Collected by At-Tabarani)
Often times, it is observed in our Muslim community that people accuse others, just for the sake of increasing themselves in honour or worldly respect. A lot of false accusations are made simply to degrade a person of a different colour, ethnic or economic background. In addition, it is disgusting to see, sometimes apparently very practicing Muslims, specially the youth, bad-mouthing the brothers and sisters who are probably not very Islamically practicing yet, or those who belong to different Islamic organizations, ideologies or mosques. Let us not forget that, in this Hadith, the Prophet (peace be upon him) has used very severe words against those who falsely accuse others for no reason. May Allah cure all of these ills from our Ummah.

True Immortality
The Prophet (peace be on him) said, Do not glorify me in the same manner as the Christians glorify Jesus, son of Mary, but say, 'He is a slave of Allah and His Messenger.' (Reported by al-Bukhari and others.)
When his Companions wanted to stand up to greet him out of respect, he forbade them, saying, "Do not stand up as the Persians do, some people honouring the others." (Reported by Abu Daoud and Ibn Majah.)
And he warned his followers against praising him excessively after his death, saying, "Do not make of my grave a site for festivals," (Reported by Abu Daoud.) and he prayed to his Lord, "O my Lord, do not let my grave be made into an idol to be worshipped." (Reported by Malik in Al-Muwatta.)
Once some people came to the Prophet (peace be on him) and addressed him in the following words: "O Messenger of Allah, the best of us and the son of the best of us, our leader and the son of our leader." He said, "O people, say what you said previously or a part of it, and do not let Satan mislead you. I am Muhammad, a slave of Allah and His Messenger. I do not like your raising my status above the status which Allah, the Mighty and Glorious, has given me." (Reported by al-Nisai on good authority.)
When Islam came, it declared that the best of Allah's creation and the last of His Messengers (peace be on him) was but a mortal man. It emphasized that the worth of human beings lies in their deeds and not in their physical form; it made the Messenger (peace be on him) an example for all mankind to follow; and it forbade such sanctification and exaggerated respect for men which resembles adoration and which, by implication, signifies the belittlement of the rest of mankind.
The believers aspire only to that true immortality which can be bestowed by Allah alone, Who knows the secret and the hidden, Who neither misleads nor forgets. In His register of immortality there is the name of many a person whose greatness has remained unrecognized by the people. Indeed, the Most High loves those Godfearing and religious souls who remember Him in the secrecy of their hearts, who do great service without fanfare, whose presence is not felt in a gathering of people and whose absence is not missed.
Islam immortalizes the memories of people because of their good and beneficent deeds; the remembrance of them remains in the hearts of Muslims. Thus, the literate and illiterate, the young and the old, know about the justice of Umar, the firmness and wisdom of Abu Bakr, and the piety and courage of Ali. No statue made of stone was needed to commemorate any of them because their deeds and qualities are inscribed in peoples' hearts.

The Pact of the Virtuous
Abdullah ibn Judan, the chief of the Taym tribe and a member of one the two great alliances of Meccan tribes, decided to invite to his home all those who wanted to put an end to the conflicts and establish a pact of honour and justice that would bind the tribes beyond alliances based merely on tribal, political, or commercial interests. This alliance, known as hilf al-fudul (the Pact of the Virtuous), was special in that it placed respect for the principles of justice and support of the oppressed above all other considerations of kinship or power. Young Muhammad, like Abu Bakr, who was to become his lifelong friend, took part in that historic meeting.
Long after Revelation had begun, Muhammad (peace be upon him) was to remember the terms of that pact and say: "I was present in Abdullah in Judan's house when a pact was concluded, so excellent that I would not exchange my part in it even for a herd of red camels; and if now, in Islam, I was asked to take part in it, I would be glad to accept." This statement is of particular significance for Muslims, and at least three major teachings can be derived from it.
The first teaching is that the act of laying out those principles is prior to and transcends belonging to Islam, because in fact Islam and its message came to confirm the substance of a treaty that human conscience had already independently formulated. Here, the Prophet clearly acknowledges the validity of a principle of justice and defence of the oppressed stipulated in a pact of the pre-Islamic era.
The second teaching is no less essential: at a time when the message was still being elaborated in the course of Revelation and of the Prophet's experiences, he acknowledged the validity of a pact established by non-Muslims seeking justice and the common good of their society.
The third teaching is a direct consequence of this reflection: the message of Islam is by no means a closed value system at variance or conflicting with other value systems. Islam does not establish a closed universe of reference but rather relies on a set of universal principles that can coincide with the fundamentals and values of other beliefs and religious traditions. Islam is a message of justice that entails resisting oppression and protecting the dignity of the oppressed and the poor, and Muslims must recognize the moral value of a law or contract stipulating this requirement, whoever its authors and whatever the society, Muslims or not.

Al-Yusra: The Easy and Natural Way
One of the terms used by the Qur'an during the early Makkan period to describe Islam was al-Yusraa, or 'The Easy Way' [65:4]. This is simply because Islam was, and is, the natural way of life and hence causes human beings to gravitate towards it easily. Islam consequently brings harmony, peace and tranquillity to their lives.
What Makes Islam Simple to Understand & Practice?
FIRSTLY, the basic beliefs of Islam are not shrouded in mystery and hence forever beyond human comprehension. Every tenet in Islam can be analyzed and inquired about, by young children or seasoned philosophers. Moreover, Islam does not present concepts which the intellect cannot grasp (e.g. the "Trinity"). It is therefore not surprising that its beliefs are universal.
SECONDLY, the most important and stringent obligations ordained by Allah upon Muslims are easy to undertake and graded according to effort. It is the wisdom of Allah that the greater the importance He has attached to any act, the easier it is for everyone to accomplish it. Thus, the example of the five daily Salah (Prayers) and Sawm (fasting) as compulsory upon everyone, but Zakah (almsgiving) and Hajj (pilgrimage), though fundamental pillars of Islam, only compulsory on those with the means.
THIRDLY, Islamic law offers provisions, concessions and dispensations when it is genuinely not possible for someone to fulfil an obligation. For instance, if a person is genuinely unable to stand up and pray, then he or she is permitted to sit down or even lie down and pray. Similarly, if there is no water available to perform the Wudu (ablution) before prayer, then one can make Tayammum.
No Excuses
Hence, for the Muslim who sincerely wants to come closer to Allah, he and she will find many doors open for them in God's religion to facilitate their growth and cover their weaknesses. For them is the Easy Way.
But for the Muslim who is looking for an excuse of difficulty or incapacity, they will only frustrate themselves further in looking for external causes for their state.

The Scholar, The Soldier, The Rich
Since there are two ingredients essential to all good things: that they should be intended for God's sake, and that they should conform to the Sacred Law, this must apply equally in speech and action, to good words and good works, to matters of knowledge and to matters of worship.
It is confirmed in an authentic narration that the Prophet, on him be peace, said:
"The first of three to fuel the fire of Hell is a man who studies and teaches and reads the Quran and has it read, but all so that people will say: 'He is a scholar and a Quran reader.' Then a man who fights and struggles so that people will say: 'He is courageous and brave.' Then a man who gives alms and gifts so that people will say: 'He is generous and openhanded.'"

Three Means To Nourish The Seed Of Iman
The Quran
It is a treasure-house of soul-stirring inspiration and wisdom. We can and should spend hours in understanding the Quran. Those who truly listen to the Quran, their eyes begin to well up with tears which trickle down their cheeks. We should always study the Quran as if it is being revealed today. One of the greatest injustices we do to the Quran is that we read it as if it was something of the past, and of no relevance to the present.
Brotherhood
The Quran says, "bind yourself with those who call upon Allah morning and evening." As soon as you have planted the seed of Iman in your own heart, and you have recognised it in someone else and you find that he agrees with you, you feel ten times stronger. It has been proven experimentally that the group life is one of the most powerful forces to stimulate and inspire humans.
Dawah
If the faith is there inside you, Da'wah is a necessary outcome of it. As Iman increases, you get motivated and you want to go out and tell everybody about what you know to be the truth and call upon them to join your mission.

Satan's the Enemy
Whoever studies the Quran and Sunnah will find that those texts are more concerned with mentioning Satan and battling against him than they are with mentioning the soul. The blameworthy soul is mentioned in Sura Yusuf, Verse 53 and Sura al-Naziyat, Verse 40. The reproaching soul is mentioned only in Sura al-Qiyamah, Verse 2. On the other hand, Satan is mentioned in a number of places. A whole Sura is dedicated to warning about him!
The Lord's warnings to His slaves concerning him are much greater than His warnings concerning the soul. This is how it must be for the evil and harm of the soul springs from Satan's whispering. This is his medium, the place of his evil and the place of his obedience. Allah has ordered the taking of refuge from Satan upon reading the Quran and at other times. This is due to the great need of seeking refuge from Satan. On the other hand, Allah did not order the seeking of refuge from the soul in any place. Seeking of refuge from the soul is only mentioned in the opening of a speech wherein one says, "We seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our souls."
Al-Ghazali wrote that it is obligatory to protect oneself from the secret whispering of Satan. This can only be done by knowing his means and modes of operation. Satan tries to fulfill his plans through steps, in the same way that a person lowers the bucket turn by turn into a well. His means include encouraging people to go to extremes, making people fail to perform their responsibilities through false hopes and dreams, making people procrastinate and become lazy and so forth. However, perhaps Satan's greatest scheme is that of making what is evil look good and beneficial.

The History of Palestine - Maulana Ismail Adam Patel
Allah (swt) through verses in the Holy Qur’an, Prophet Muhammad’s (saws) teachings and his visiting al Masjidul Aqsa during his miraculous journey to the heavens has connected al Masjidul Aqsa and Jerusalem to the believes and respect of present day Muslims.
Al Masjidul Aqsa Haram Sharif besides being the first qibla (direction Muslims faced during Salah prayer) represents one of only three mosques where Muslims are recommended to undertake a journey for sole purpose of praying Salah. The virtues of praying in al Masjidul Haram Sharif are multiplied by a thousand times. The numerous virtues of al Masjidul Aqsa has made to central to Muslims all over the world. The love and affection for al Masjidul Aqsa transcends all national boundaries, languages and colour. Muslims all over the globe through the teachings of Islam hold it dear and venerate it.

The author’s full name was Ahmad Ibrahim Muhammad al-Dimashqi al-Dumyati, commonly known as Ibn an-Nuhaas and he died in the Year 814 Hijri, corresponding to the Year 1411 of the Gregorian calendar.
Al-Sakhawi said about him:
“He was eager to do good, preferred living in obscurity and showed no arrogance or pride due to his knowledge. Whoever would see him would think that he was a commoner – a handsome man, with a beautiful beard, short and medium built. He spent most of his life stationed in Jihad until he died as a martyr.”
Ibn al-Imad said about him:
“The Sheikh, Imam, scholar and exemplar.”
In 814 Hijri the Romans attacked the people of Teenah in Egypt. The people of Dumyat, led by Ibn an-Nuhaas went to join their brothers in their fight against the invading forces. Ibn an-Nuhaas was killed in the battle, whilst facing the enemy and not fleeing from them, nine months after he completed writing this book.

Thawaabit ‘ala darb al Jihad is one of the best contemporary books on the subject of Jihad. It was written by Shaykh Yusuf al ‘Uyayree. Shaykh Yusuf had left at an early age to fight in Afghanistan against the Russians. People who knew him described him as a very intelligent individual who was well-versed in all of the weaponry in all fields and was able to train with them very well. Later, he returned to the Arabian Peninsula where he continued serving the Mujahideen in Chechnya and fundraised for them. As time passed, he was arrested and put in jail for a few years. In jail he memorized al Bukhari and Muslim. When he came out, he wrote a few books; each one of them is a masterpiece. One can see the depth of his textual references to Qur’an and Sunnah as well as references to present day occurences. He was later killed and died shaheed by the security forces in the Arabian Peninsula; we ask Allah for that to be the case.
Imam Anwar al Awlaki brings this book back to life in his lecture series on the book. It is a very detailed lecture series which is extremely relevant to our time.
